There is a separate board to mount the tube socekt and the connectors. A four knob version of the Tube Works 901 Real Tube pedal, which was an improved Tube Driver. 1993-94 - 911 Tube Driver - Made by Butlers Tube Works company. Only marked with script Chandler logo on the front, no BK Butler. Connection to the board with flexible wire and connectors to allow easy access. Knockoff made by Chandler after Butler parted ways with them. The plastic is mounted to the bottom of the stomp box. Tube is held in place by a L-shaped piece of plastic which has a 18mm hole for the tube socket to go through. (Wiring isnt very tidy as I had to flip the stomp switch because the tube did not fit anymore :-) )
BK BUTLER TUBE DRIVER LOW GAIN HOW TO
No tube -), just a plain black stomp box.Īfter a lot of thinking how to fix the tube inside the enclosure I came up with this: Now here is the mentioned 1590BB version with the tube inside! I will do another recording when I have time. Lots of fun and great distorted tones testing this baby!

I have changed a few parts values and the tube to AT7 and this is sooooo great sounding. My favorite thing was the feel of it, which cannot be duplicated by regular pedals. You might have seen the 125B version in an earlier build report here: I wouldn't call it high gain by any means, maybe medium gain. The gain range goes from semi-clean to moderate overdrive. It sounds pretty sweet with a 5751 or 12au7 in there. I do wish it was a bit smaller, but I guess I have overpacked my board (which is why I am selling mine).Īs others here have said, you can change the tube to a 5751, 12at7 or 12 au7 for differing tone and gain structures. It is easy to get those liquidy lead tones. Push the gain a little to get fat, singing lead tones. EQ controls allow you to modify the treble and bass response of the overdrive. The high headroom pedal allows it to be used as a clean boost all the way to crunchy, tube like tones. I found the Tube Driver to be very fun to play. The Auroch Overdrive is inspired by the BK Butler Tube Driver. However, it sounds great and remember that most of our favorite sounds have come from (even solid state) pedals like the Fuzz Face and Tube Screamer. The pedal uses an Opamp as a gain stage (volume boost) to overdrive the tube which is running at a low voltage.

On the higher side of the gain spectrum, pick attack was clearly defined, and pinch harmonics sailed out of the strings with ease. Both the bias and non-bias versions I have had sounded identical and I ran both in the regular bias setting for maximum punch. It sounds almost like a BK Butler Tube Driver, except without that earth-shattering low end girth and sometimes piercing and ragged top end. The bias control sags the sound a lot, and in my opinion is not really usable very far outside of the "stock" non-bias knob settings, especially if you use it to boost your amp. Those sound different and will not get you the classic EJ and Gilmour tones.īoth new ones I have had sound great.

After that they produced their version along with a rackmount version. Chandler merely distributed the early ones (must say B.K. BK Butler has specifically stated that those were faulty copies of his original design. The Chandler ones with the wall wart end are different sounding. when turned up, it´s fine (probably not down to 20hz, but well enough low-end) got mine set to borderline-clean, so it doesn´t start crunching. I've had a handful of new and vintage Tube Drivers. the tube drive completely erases your low-end when the bass knob´s turned down.
